Brig. Gen. Marek Šimandl, MPA
Ladies and gentleman,
For the Customs Administration of the Czech Republic, participation in the Future Forces Forum event represents a unique chance to share our vision and goals and to reflect on the new opportunities brought by technological developments. It gives us the room to join forces, share knowledge and establish partnership contacts. I am pleased to take over the patronage of this project on behalf of the Customs Administration of the Czech Republic.
The year 2022 was a turning point for Europe. After Russia invaded Ukraine, we witnessed a large-scale conventional conflict on the EU borders. In response to Russia's aggression, the EU expanded sanctions, which became the largest sanctions regimes in terms of the range of sectors and entities that have been affected.
The Customs Administration, as the main authority in controlling goods at the EU's external borders, plays a key role in enforcing these sanctions. However, this task cannot be carried out alone. Our top priorities are the border cooperation with customs and other relevant authorities.
We will focus not only on upgrading our technology and processes, but also on deepening the expertise of our staff. Thanks to the development of new technologies and cooperation with all relevant stakeholders, we have had advanced equipment.
